Adventures in big boy beds

While away in St. Maarten, David realized that he was big enough to climb out of his pack n play at grandma and grandpa's. So what do you know, his first night home with us, he climbed out of his crib the next morning. And much to our dismay, we don't have a toddler rail for his bed like we thought we had. Ugh ... so now it's time to convert it to a toddler bed so he doesn't fall out and get hurt. But without a side rail, he will likely still fall out in his sleep. And that's exactly what he did. A few days later and we have a rail but he's so leery and fears falling out again. I get it ... I wouldn't trust it either.

The next few days (or maybe weeks) could be very interesting.

(**UPDATE** It took quite a while to get him comfortable in his bed without the foot rail. I mean weeks. But now my big boy enjoys his bed and has no issues sleeping in it. We just need to get him some 'big boy' or toddler bed schtuff for him. Mickey, or Cars, or Thomas. )

St. Maarten here we come ...

To enjoy a 'babymoon' before Minius arrives ... Mike and I chose a fun location that although not cheap to get there ... won't be so terrible once there. Afteral, Kirstine and Fab live in paradise. We couldn't wait for our week of fun in the sun and getting a chance to enjoy it not only with our friends but with locals, and their new baby too! :-)

The trip was so much fun ... it started a little rocky ... Mike almost missed his connection to meet me in Miami. He had been in Orlando that week for work and weather and plane issues kept his plane from leaving on time and then the weather in Miami closed the airport for a little bit. Fortunately though, his flight had landed before they closed the runways and airport. He made the flight just in time to sit by my side and head to paradise. It was so odd to fly without David. Even more odd for my first leg to sit on a plane by myself entirely.

We spent a week enjoying the sun and a few small rain showers and LOTS of mosquito bites. Ok I got the brunt of those but fortunately I know that I'm tastey so at least I knew what I was getting into. We toured the island by land and by sea and it was spectacular. Kirstine, Fab and Annarose were still staying in the villa when we visited so we had the most amazing views each morning when we woke up, even when we helped do the dishes. We talked about the past, the present, and the future. We ate in and drank and laid on the beach during the day. Annarose was amazing for 5months. She was so much fun and truly beautiful. She's definitely the best of both Kirstine and Fab.

Spending time with Mike was wonderful but we both missed David terribly. But I will admit that spending time with Kirstine was just as great. I've missed seeing her and whenever we get together its like no time has passed at all. I cannot believe that we've been friends for so long. She's a very important person to me so spending time with her was ever so a blessing. And getting Mike to see my friendship with her was great too. Spending time with Annarose just made us miss David more and even more excited to meet our new bundle coming soon.

Kirstine and Fab told us about their new adventure of owning a dive shop with another partner. They're really excited about it and feel that they've found a great partner who will help them create their vision. I can't wait til it all gets together. It's a really big adventure and I know they're very excited.

St. Maarten was beautiful and so much fun ... lots of beach time ... hanging out and even hanging in. We made most dinners at home which was very nice to take care of them with homecooked meals. Fab made us some delicious food too ... ohhh and the crepes ... YUM. It was such a great trip ... truly ... in so many ways. And we can't wait to go back ... this time with the little boys.

David's new suitcase ...

Grandma and grandpa spoiled David and got him a new suitcase and matching backpack from the Container Store. They did so because he loves toting mom's laptop case around the place when it's out. It's just his size and the telescoping handle is super fun!! He loves it so much and I cannot wait to see him use it for a trip. Not sure which one we'll use it for but I look forward to it. He can't get enough of it at home.

**** Update (1/7/13): We finally used the suitcase on this last trip and not just the backpack and it worked out perfectly!! He loved being able to have his own suitcase that he was responsible for and it even made the trek through the airport a smidge easier. Who knew that a 2.5yr old could be so responsible (I guess we did something right). ****
